Who is the «economy» for? What do coffee shops, Japanese mushrooms, and the cozy web all have in common? They all rely on relationships that cannot be replicated and extracted. The unicorn startup model is broken. We need economies that support collective flourishing. Local, “inefficient”, flows of exchange feed back into mutual relationships that enrich communities and generate more overall wealth. Increasing intangible values like quality and uniqueness while knitting social relationships is key for economic sustainability. Technology can help us create mutual relationships globally and usher in a new economics.
